Many local residents will be aware that the Currie Star Football Club and Edinburgh Cricket Club have applied to the Council for a 25 year lease of Campbell Park, excluding the play park. The applicants propose to improve the drainage, improve the football pitch by levelling, move the cricket square to reduce the risk of balls entering the relevant Campbell Park Crescent gardens, upgrade the pavilion and generally provide ongoing maintenance of the Park. They indicate that there will be no restrictions on dog walking and school use and that community groups will be able to use the facilities subject to availability. It is expected that if minded to grant a lease the Council would impose conditions covering such matters as car parking, noise and public access. The views of the community will be important to the Council in deciding the fate of the proposed lease and it is expected that the Community Council will have an important role in assisting the community to come to a view. Hopefully this will include a public meeting to which the applicants should be invited so that individuals can make informed judgements. CAA intend to be actively involved in this process.
